Selection Process

AimsThe Master of Social Sciences in Psychology Programme is a conversion programme for non-psychology degree holders. It aims to provide intensive training in a broad knowledge base across key areas of psychology with unique emphasis on health-related topics. The programme structure is benchmarked with international standards, aligning with similar conversion programmes offered in other universities. Graduates will fulfill membership requirements of major psychological societies in the world, and be prepared for advanced professional and research postgraduate training in psychology in Hong Kong and overseas.

Study CurriculumThe study curriculum may change from time to time. Applicants may make reference to the programme website or the University Student Handbook for details of the list of courses.

Academic Qualification

 

Applicants should possess:

 

  1. A non-psychology bachelor's degree* from a recognised university or equivalent; and
  2. Preferably have completed an introductory psychology course in their undergraduate studies.

* A "non-Psychology degree" shall refer to any undergraduate qualification that does not fully satisfy the Hong Kong Psychological Society (HKPS) membership eligibility requirements for a recognized psychology first degree, regardless of:

  1. The title of the undergraduate programme, and/or
  2. The number of psychology-related courses completed.

 

Language Proficiency Requirement

 

Applicants should also fulfill any one of the following requirements:

 

  1. Hold a bachelor's degree which is obtained from a recognised institution where English is the medium of instruction; or
  2. Provide any of the following English test results for meeting the English proficiency requirements:
  • TOEFL score of 79 (Internet-based)#; or
  • IELTS (Academic): Overall Band at 6.5#.

#Note: Test result provided should be within two years from the date of issuance of the Admission Offer letter. Test result of TOEFL iBT Home Edition or IELTS Indicator is not accepted.
