Selection Process
  1. Qualified applicants will be interviewed to ensure their motivation and suitability for pursuing training in counselling.
  2. Application result will be reflected in the application status in the online application system.
Aims
  1. developing students' knowledge in understanding, analysing and researching the changing needs of people and the social cultural contexts within which these individuals develop; and
  2. equipping students with selected counseling theories and practice skills, with cognitive behavior therapy and narrative therapy in particular.
Outcome Goals

Upon completion of the programme, students are expected to be able to:

  1. become self-directed learners, recognising personal needs, selecting preferred alternatives for themselves;
  2. become reflexive professionals in counselling, who are able to assess changing social needs, challenge the dominant discourse that is oppressing and disempowering people, particularly the powerless people;
  3. have a solid conceptual framework in understanding human diversity and needs;
  4. analyse the social dynamics and policies which affect the counselling needs of people;
  5. acquire knowledge of the philosophical and theoretical underpinnings of selected counselling perspectives, and that of narrative therapy in particular;
  6. apply the selected counselling theories and practice skills in counselling with people in need and in different work settings;
  7. be "research literate" - and be able to criticise, use and promote research relevant to advancing students' counselling capacity and professional sensitivity.

Academic Qualification

 

Applicants should possess a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university or equivalent.


Language Proficiency Requirement

 

Proof of English proficiency is required for all applicants whose Bachelor’s degree is obtained from non-English medium institutions. These applicants must meet the following minimum requirements for English proficiency:

 

  1. an overall band score of 6.0 in International English Language Testing System (IELTS)*; or
  2. a score of 74 (internet-based test) in TOEFL*; or
  3. an equivalent score on a comparable test.

*Note: Test result provided should be within two years from the date of issuance of the Admission Offer letter. TOEFL iBT Home Edition or IELTS Indicator test is not accepted.

 

Others

 

  1. Preferably with relevant experience of working with people in related fields; and
  2. Some background knowledge in psychology, human development, guidance, and/or other related courses.
