Selection Process

Aims

The programme adopts a pragmatic approach to strengthen students’ knowledge and skills in pharmaceutical sciences in Chinese medicine. It aims at upgrading students’ ability to comprehend and master the theoretical knowledge of Chinese Medicine pharmacy so that their research ability and problem solving skills can be enhanced through learning of the latest research methodologies and technologies. The programme will help train a generation of modern and scientific professionals in applied Chinese Medicine pharmacy, especially in the areas of product development, quality assurance, drug safety assessment, production management and trading of Chinese medicines or/and healthcare products.

* Students can take either Dissertation or two courses (Thinking Approach and Methodology of Chinese Medicine and Formulation Theories and Practices of Chinese Medicinal Formulae)

# For those who have not previously studied Chinese Medicine or Pharmacy in Chinese Medicine, they are required to take a supplementary course -- Overview on Chinese Medicine and Chinese Materia Medica (中醫藥學概論). The course fee is HK$12,300 and the students must satisfactorily complete the course which will be recorded in their academic transcript.

Academic Qualification

 

  1. A bachelor of Chinese Medicine or Pharmacy in Chinese Medicine degree; or
  2. A non-Chinese Medicine degree, but with qualifications equivalent to the above, e.g. applicants with a bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Pharmacy, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Science or Medicine ; or
  3. Pharmacists or registered Chinese Medicine practitioners of Hong Kong; or
  4. Graduates of Professional Diploma of Pharmacy in Chinese Medicine or programmes of similar nature, who have more than three years of relevant working experience.

Applicants with qualifications listed in (2), (3) or (4) above may be required to pass an assessment conducted by the Programme Management Committee.

 

 

Language Proficiency Requirement

 

Applicants must have:

 

  1. obtained a bachelor's degree with Chinese language as the primary medium of instruction in the major courses; or  
  2. obtained Grade E or above in Chinese Language and Culture in the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination; or 
  3. obtained Level 3 or above in Chinese Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE); or 
  4. passed the Chinese language test arranged by the School of Chinese Medicine, HKBU.
