
Useful Notes on Taking a Second Major Programme
- The FASS offered 8 Double Major Programmes as follow:
- CHI as Home Major and ENG as Second Major
- ENG as Home Major and CHI as Second Major
- CHI as Home Major and REL as Second Major
- REL as Home Major and CHI as Second Major
- ENG as Home Major and REL as Second Major
- REL as Home Major and ENG as Second Major
- ENG as Home Major and TRAN as Second Major
- TRAN as Home Major and ENG as Second Major
Explore More - Students must fulfil the second major requirements using the units for free electives. This means when students choose a course to fulfil the second major requirements, its course group should be under free electives.
Transferred courses may serve to fulfil the second major requirements but the number of transferred units used for this purpose is limited to 40% of the unit requirement for the second major.
There is no GPA requirement specifically for the second major. To graduate with a double major progarmme, a student has to:
- fulfil all university general requirements
- pass all courses required by the double major progarmmes (including courses required by the home major and the second major).
- attain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
Students will NOT be guaranteed a place for any course they wish to take listed under the second major . Successful registration to courses is subject to the availability of course quota, clash free class schedule, etc.
Declaration of a Double Major Programme
Eligible FASS students who wish to graduate with a Double Major Programme are required to declare for such at the end of Year 3 and they should attain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 at the time of declaration.
Withdrawal from the Double Major Programme
Students who have been approved to pursue a Double Major Programme but subsequently wish to withdraw from it have to make an application to the Academic Registry. The withdrawal is subject to the approval of the 2 departments concerned.
- Students satisfying the graduation requirements of the home major but failing to satisfy those of the second major will graduate with a single major, i.e., the home major only. No extension of study will be allowed.
- Students satisfying the second major requirements but failing to satisfy the graduation requirements of the home major CANNOT graduate with the second major only.
- The completion of the second major will be recorded on the academic transcript of students but NOT on the graduation diploma.
