Welcome Message from the President and Vice-Chancellor
Dear students,
Welcome to Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU)!
Entering university is one of the most memorable milestones in life, and I am delighted that you have joined HKBU, where we value your whole-person development and are committed to helping you grow, discover your potential and succeed.
Today's world is rapidly shaped by emerging technologies, especially artificial intelligence (AI). From increasing efficiency to enabling breakthroughs in knowledge creation and professional practices, AI is now deeply woven into our social fabric. For that reason, HKBU emphasises the ethical and responsible use of AI throughout your academic journey.
As educators, we cannot stress enough that AI is not meant to replace your critical and creative thinking. On the contrary, the attributes that remain distinctly human—critical thinking, leadership, sound judgment, empathy, and courage—will always help you stand out and stay competitive.
To help you thrive in this dynamic landscape, HKBU has invested heavily in transdisciplinary education to ensure our graduates are versatile for any career path they choose. The past 2025/26 academic year was an exciting milestone as we embarked on a curriculum reform with the introduction of an additional new transdisciplinary programme, transdisciplinary second majors and second majors. Four transdisciplinary undergraduate and individualised major programmes also yielded their very first graduating cohorts, spanning arts and technology, global entertainment business, innovation in health and social well-being, and individually designed majors. I strongly encourage you to immerse yourself in our transdisciplinary learning environment which gets you ready for the future.
At HKBU, students do not merely acquire knowledge; they apply it, question it, and turn it into meaningful impact. In recent years, our students have distinguished themselves in innovation and technology competitions, creative and communication awards, entrepreneurial projects, sports events, and community service initiatives. Their achievements reflect the spirit we cherish at HKBU: the curiosity to explore new possibilities, and the commitment to serve society with purpose. I hope you will be inspired by their examples and, in time, create achievements of your own.
We continue to create new opportunities and secure resources to support your holistic development. In the past 2025/26 academic year, the University awarded more than 2,700 scholarships, encouraging and supporting students in their pursuit of academic excellence and personal growth. We are deeply grateful to our donors and supporters, whose generosity makes these opportunities possible. Their contributions are not only financial gifts, but also an expression of confidence in HKBU and encouragement for our students.
We also keep enhancing current facilities and launching new spaces to foster a supportive and vibrant living-learning environment. For instance, the Jockey Club Campus of Creativity (JC³), which opened last year, is a hub for you to engage in creative exchanges, explore your passions, and interact with an international community. Do make the most of your time here to learn and connect with your peers and professors, for they will become a strong, lasting backing for your ventures in career and life.
2026 is also a special year for HKBU, as we celebrate the University’s 70th Anniversary. Our 70th Anniversary slogan, “Act with Faith, Create the Future”, succinctly sums up our vision for the future. As the new members of the HKBU community, you are now ready to write our next chapter and leave your unique mark on our heritage. There will be more exciting events throughout the year-long celebrations, and I shall look forward to seeing you take part in them.
Welcome once again to HKBU. A world of possibilities is now yours to explore. May you explore it with curiosity, navigate it with wisdom, and find joy not only in every outcome, but in every step of this enriching journey!
