Academic Qualification
- A bachelor's degree in science, engineering, business or other relevant fields from a recognised university; or
- Equivalent qualifications
Language Proficiency Requirement
If applicants did not use English as the medium of learning in their bachelor’s degree programmes, they should satisfy any one of the following English proficiency requirements:
- IELTS overall band score of at least 6.0*; or
- TOEFL score of at least 74 (internet-based)*; or
- Other equivalent qualifications.
*Note: Test result provided should be within two years from the date of issuance of the Admission Offer letter. TOEFL iBT Home Edition or IELTS Indicator test is not accepted.
Others
Applicants having other qualifications and substantial experience in Information Technology will also be considered.
To attract outstanding applicants, we provide Entrance Scholarships to the freshmen with excellent academic records in their undergraduate studies. Each awardee will receive up to HK$50,000.
To encourage students to achieve excellence in their studies, we provide the following scholarships:
- High Distinction Scholarship (HK$15,000/semester for full-time study mode or HK$15,000/year for part-time study mode) with the following conditions:
- the semester GPA is 3.90 ‒ 4.00 for full-time students or the year GPA is 3.90 ‒ 4.00 for part-time students;
- no grade is lower than B-; and
- it is within the normal study schedule; and
- full-time students must take at least 13 units in the semester or part-time students must take at least 13 units in the academic year.
- Distinction Scholarship (HK$10,000/semester for full-time study mode or HK$10,000/year for part-time study mode) with the following conditions:
- the semester GPA is 3.70 ‒ 3.89 for full-time students or the year GPA is 3.70 ‒ 3.89 for part-time students;
- no grade is lower than B-; and
- it is within the normal study schedule and the number of units taken is not less than that in the normal study schedule; and
- full-time students must take at least 13 units in the semester or part-time students must take at least 13 units in the academic year.
- Merit Scholarship (HK$5,000/semester for full-time study mode or HK$5,000/year for part-time study mode) with the following conditions:
- the semester GPA is 3.40 ‒ 3.69 for full-time students or the year GPA is 3.40 ‒ 3.69 for part-time students; and
- it is within the normal study schedule and the number of units taken is not less than that in the normal study schedule; and
- full-time students must take at least 13 units in the semester or part-time students must take at least 13 units in the academic year.
- Global Experience Scholarships are awarded to support students to participate in the designated global outreach programme(s) organized by the Department. Students are selected for this scholarship based on two criteria: (i) academic records and (ii) suitability for the designated outreach programme (e.g., learning motivation and communication skills). Each awardee will receive a certificate and financial support to cover the expenses for the major transportation and accommodation (such as airline ticket and hotel) for the outreach programme.
- MSc Research Scholarships are awarded to the students who perform well in the research-oriented courses and fulfill the following requirements: (i) the grade obtained in “COMP7960 MSc Research I” or “COMP7970 MSc Research II” in a semester is A or A-, (ii) the results obtained in COMP7960 or COMP7970 are of publishable quality, and (iii) the affiliation of the authors in the paper is “Department of Computer Science, Hong Kong Baptist University”. The amount of each scholarship is up to HK$5,000, depending on the quality of the results.
- Student Conference Travel Scholarships are awarded to support the students who present their research results in international conferences. To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must have completed a research paper in the MSc DAAI or MSc ITM programme under the supervision of our academic/teaching staff and this paper has been accepted for presentation by a reputable international conference. The scholarship provides financial support covering up to 50% of the actual expenses incurred for conference attendance. The scholarship award is capped at $10,000 per student.
The Programme Team will make the final decision on the award of scholarships.
Continuing Education Fund
If a student is a Hong Kong resident, he/she may be eligible for financial support from the Continuing Education Fund (CEF) provided by the Hong Kong SAR Government to partly cover the tuition fee.
