Dean: Prof Stephen Y L Cheung, BBS, JP
Since its inception in 1956, HKBU has been a pathfinder in business education in Hong Kong and Asia. The School of Business has progressively gained in stature over the years. In April 2010, the School joined the top 5 per cent of business schools worldwide to receive full accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB), the largest and the longest standing specialized accrediting agency for business and accounting programmes. AACSB International accreditation represents the highest standard of achievement and our commitment to quality and continuous improvement. The School's strategic vision is to be a leader in whole-person business education and a centre of excellence in business research in selected strategic areas, with a view to inspiring business practice, creating values for stakeholders, and enhancing social and economic growth and development. The programmes that we offer, BBA, BCom, MBA, MSc, DBA, MPhil and PhD, are intellectually rigorous and have contemporary and professional relevance to serve the evolving needs of Hong Kong, mainland China and the global community. We adopt a student-centred approach with the pursuit of success for our students-education, professional and personal development-being the driving force behind everything we do. We encourage and support-intellectually and financially-students to take part in overseas exchange and learning, business internship, leadership and career development, field trips to the Mainland and overseas countries. In particular, our BBA student team is known to be one of the most competitive teams as evidenced by their winning records in open academic competitions in recent years. Converging from different parts of the world, our faculty members bring a wealth of knowledge, richness and depth of international perspective to their teaching and research. Their expertise and commitment to excellence have been demonstrated by their published works in prestigious scholarly journals and their service to public, professional and government policymaking bodies. In addition to our satisfactory scores above the sector-wide median in the Business Studies area in 1999 and 2006 Research Assessment Exercises (RAE) among local universities, the School has achieved an outstanding track record in the Research Grants Council (RGC) General Research Fund (GRF) exercises, with ten supported projects in the recent two years. GRF is deemed as the gold standard in Hong Kong for research achievement, involving the rigorous peer review by the RGC's international network of expert referees. The School puts a strong emphasis on business ethics, corporate social responsibility, corporate governance in our education and research agenda. We have received funding support from the University Strategic Development Fund for a large-scale project entitled "Corporate Sustainability: A Community Dialogue", encompassing various research activities, publications, public forums and seminar series. The two international academic conferences initiated and hosted by the School on a biennial basis, namely the Asia-Pacific Corporate Governance Conference (supported by Pacific Basin Finance Journal) and the World Business Ethics Forum (supported by the Journal of Business Ethics), also serve as platforms to explore new approaches and new ideas in this theme area of Corporate Sustainability.
