The Department of Accountancy and Law is located on the 6th floor of the Wing Lung Bank Building for Business Studies of the Shaw Campus. It comprises a total of 21 faculty members; a majority of them have PhD degrees and professional designations in Hong Kong and/or other countries. The Department is responsible for teaching accounting and business law courses. The BBA (Hons) degree - Accounting concentration is an accredited accountancy degree for admission into the qualification programme of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA). The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) also gives exemption for a maximum of nine papers to our accounting graduates under the new ACCA syllabus with effect from December 2001. (The ACCA would give exemption to institutions for a maximum of nine papers.)

The Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in Accountancy is offered to the qualified graduates of associated degree or higher diploma programmes since September 2005. This degree programme maintains the same standards as the BBA (Hons) in Accounting concentration degree programme and obtains the same level of qualification or exemption from the related professional accounting bodies.

The Department, with joint efforts of other departments within the School of Business, offers two taught postgraduate level programmes, i.e. Master of Science in Applied Accounting and Finance, and Master of Science in Corporate Governance and Directorship. Based on 17 months of part-time study, students can finish 10 courses in 5 trimesters to obtain the master's degree. The Department also offers a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Accounting with both part-time regular mode (11 months) and full-time intensive and regular mode (3 to 6 months), which is accredited by HKICPA as equivalent to a conversion programme for CPA QP admission purposes. In addition, the Department offers research-oriented Doctor/Master of Philosophy degree(s) in Accounting and Corporate Governance.

Members of the faculty are actively engaged in teaching, research and consultancy. Their research interests include financial accounting; management accounting; capital market research; auditing; international accounting; Chinese accounting; accounting education; corporate governance in the UK, Hong Kong and mainland China; Hong Kong and international immigration laws; legal education; and business ethics.
