Implementation of the Double Major Programmes
Under the four-year curriculum, students may choose to take a Double Major programme on offer which consists of two majors in one Bachelor’s degree.
Each of the double majors consists of at least 60 units. A maximum of 30 units of overlaps would be permitted.

1. Fulfilling the Second Major Programme Requirements
1.1 Students must fulfil the second major programme requirements by making use of the units for free electives which means that if you choose a course to fulfill the second major programme requirement, its course group should be under free electives.
1.2 No matter students take a second major programme or not, students have to meet the free elective requirements in order to graduate.
2. Using transferred units to fulfill the second major programme requirement
Transferred courses may serve to fulfill the second major programme requirement but the number of transferred units allowed for the second major programme will be limited to not more than 40% of the unit requirement for the second major.
3. GPA requirement for second major programme
There is no GPA requirement specifically for the second major programme. However, a student, in order to graduate with a second major progarmme, has to:
i. fulfil all university general requirements,
ii. pass all courses required in the home major and the second major programmes; and
iii. attain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 for all the courses attempted.
4. No guarantee of places for the second major courses
Owing to class quota set by academic departments, students will not be guaranteed a place for any course they wish to take listed under the second major programme. Successful registration to courses is subject to the availability of course quota, clash free class schedule, etc.
5. Declaration of a second major programme
Students who wish to graduate with a second major programme are required to achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and to declare for such at the end of Year 3.
6. Withdrawal from the second major programme
Students who have been approved for pursuing a second major programme but subsequently wish to withdraw from it have to make an application to the Academic Registry. The withdrawal will be subject to the approval of the two departments/programmes concerned.
7. Graduation with a second major programme
7.1 Students who have satisfied the graduation requirements of the home major programme but failed to satisfy the second major will graduate with the home major only. No extension of study period will be allowed for such students for the purpose of fulfilling the second major requirements.
7.2 Students who have satisfied the second major programme requirements but failed to satisfy the graduation requirements of the home major programme cannot graduate with the second major programme only.
7.3 The completion of the second major programme will not be recorded on a student’s graduation diploma, it will only be recorded on the student’s academic transcript.
