Master of Science in Business Management

The MScBM is a pre-experience Master’s level programme in general business and management. The programme aims to prepare for the entry into or enhancement of a graduate’s career in business and management by developing knowledge and skills at a professional level. The objectives include three major areas of teaching and learning at the general level and an additional area building upon the School’s unique positioning and strengths. The general objectives are: (a) To equip students with knowledge and understanding in general business and management; (b) To prepare students in the application and integration of general business and management knowledge; and (c) To assist students in the acquisition of professional skills which are essential to their forthcoming business/management career and professional development. The unique objective of the School is: (d) To appreciate the importance of corporate sustainability and business ethics.

 

Following the aims and objectives described above, the MScBM Programme Learning Goals or Programme Intended Learning Outcomes and the associated Learning Objectives are as follows:

 
1. Students will develop knowledge in major functional areas of modern business, with emphasis on the integration of the multiple dimensions of international business.
 
a) Students will acquire disciplinary knowledge in the major functional areas of modern business;
b) Students will apply the integrated knowledge in an international context.
   
2. Students will develop knowledge of organizations, their management, and the environment in which they operate.
 
a) Students will learn and appreciate the complexity of the environment under which business operates;
b) Students will understand organizational behaviour, its related theories, and the implications;
c) Students will acquire knowledge of management, the schools of thoughts, and their implications.
   
3. Students will develop ability to apply the knowledge and understanding of business and management to complex issues of modern days, both systematically and creatively, to improve business and management practice.
 
a) Students will learn and practice managerial skills, and apply to organization¡¦s planning, organizing, implementation and control;
b) Students will learn and practice interpersonal skills, and the team-working ability to communicate and motivate;
c) Students will acquire knowledge to collect information, identify problems or possible opportunities, develop and evaluate alternatives, for the purpose of improving the organization and effective decision making.
   
4. Students will acquire knowledge of business ethics, CSR and corporate sustainability issues affecting business. Students will develop appreciation of:
 
a) Business law and related issues
b) Corporate governance and related issues
