The Department of Government and International Studies (GIS) was established at Hong Kong Baptist University in 1994. It trains students to the different aspects of political science, with a strong emphasis on international relations and comparative politics, and in European Studies, using a multi-disciplinary approach. It offers a BSocSc (Hons) in Government and International Studies, a four-year BSocSc (Hons) in European Studies, including one year of study abroad, with two language streams (French and German), and a Master of Social Sciences in European Studies focused on Sino-European relations, and offering concentrations in government and public policy or in economic and cultural exchanges (two-year part-time). The GIS Department also contributes to teaching in the China Studies programme and in the Master of Public Administration. Research by staff of the GIS Department covers Hong Kong and Chinese politics, European politics and European integration, social movements and protest, political transitions and democratization, international relations, and economic and cultural relations between China and Europe. | |||
