Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Music Studies

The Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Music Studies is a four-year full-time self-funded top-up degree programme offered by the HKBU Department of Music in collaboration with the CIE. The proposed programme is designed to offer a broad yet substantive education to students, equipping them with substantial musicianship, theoretical and historical knowledge, performance and teaching experience, and creative approaches to applying their musical skills in society. It also trains those students in areas of conducting, entrepreneurship, music advocacy, and community outreach.
 
The aims of the programme are:
 
a)
Delivering broad-based music training in performance and pedagogy with special emphasis on music fundamentals, creativity and leadership, and collaborative experience;
b) Helping and nurturing students to train themselves to create, realize and express their own artistic concepts, and to project their musical ideas fluently and confidently in a wide variety of contexts;
c) Guiding and encouraging students develop into articulate advocates of the performing arts and potential leaders in the profession;
d) Developing students¡¦ awareness of the role of the musician in society, and encouraging their active contribution to and participation in the artistic life of the community.
 
Requirements

The top-up Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Music Studies is a 66-unit programme comprising Major Core Courses (54 units) and the Major Elective Courses (12 units). As the programme is designed for Associate Degree/Higher Diploma graduates, they will be admitted directly into the third year of study. HKBU Associate Degree graduates in the relevant concentration will be considered to have fulfilled the General Education of 38 units and Free Electives Courses of 24 units.

The number of courses/units the students are required to complete will depend on the number of courses/units for which exemption and/or unit transfer will be granted. All unit transfer or course exemption shall be considered on a case-by-case basis upon admission.
