The English Language and Literature Programme seeks to provide:
 
a) A rigorous and rewarding educational experience for its students, including strengthening their English language proficiency and their ability to think and work critically, independently, and creatively;
b) A foundation of knowledge in literature and language that enables students to learn a variety of new approaches and methodologies in the field of English Language and Literature;
c) An exposure to the canon and traditions of English literature and language as an enduring legacy for the culture and community of Hong Kong.
