Minor Programme in Applied Mathematics
 

Students seeking to pursue the study of a minor programme would need to fulfil 15 units of courses specified by the offering department/programme, with at least one course (3 units) at Level 3 or 4. Note that no registration priority will be given to enrolment in minor courses. Upon completion of the 15 units required for the minor programmes, students should apply to the Academic Registry for approval.

 
The structure of the curriculum is as follows:
 
I) Required Courses 6 units
II) Elective Courses 3 units
III) Two from the list of Core or Major Electives of the BSc in Applied & Computational Mathematics 6 units

Requirements
 
I. Required Courses 6 units
  Either      
  MATH 1005 Calculus 3 units
  Or      
  MATH 1006 Advanced Calculus I 3 units
  MATH 2207 Linear Algebra 3 units
         
II. Elective Courses 3 units
  One of the following courses:  
  MATH 2205 Multivariate Calculus 3 units
  MATH 3206 Numerical Methods I 3 units
  MATH 3405 Ordinary Differential Equations 3 units
         
III. Two from the list of Core or Major Electives of the BSc in Applied & Computational Mathematics 6 units

Remark 1:
a) Students are allowed to take only one of the following three courses:
MATH 2005 Probability & Statistics for Computer Science,
MATH 2006 Probability & Statistics for Science,
MATH 2206 Probability & Statistics.
b) As the prerequisite of a course, the following three courses are equivalent:
MATH 2005 Probability & Statistics for Computer Science,
MATH 2006 Probability & Statistics for Science,
MATH 2206 Probability & Statistics.
 
Remark 2:
The credits of core courses of the major programme would not be counted again in the minor programme. Therefore,
a) For students in the Faculty of Science, the credits of MATH 1005 would not be counted in the minor programme.
b) For students in the Department of Computer Science, the credits of MATH 1205 would not be counted in the minor programme.
