The Technology Development Division (TDD) has been set up to spearhead and manage knowledge transfer activities at the School of Chinese Medicine. It aims:

 
1. To conduct collaborative projects with the industry and other external organizations;
2. To establish joint laboratories with the industry and other external organizations; and
3. To provide testing, authentication and consultancy services to the Government and the industry, launch “BU Health” products and publish books through the Institute for the Advancement of Chinese Medicine (IACM) Ltd.
 

The School has the functional laboratories set out below to provide a complete range of quality assurance, bioactivity and toxicity screening, and product development services through TDD:

1. Quality Research Laboratory/Phytochemistry Laboratory
The laboratory provides a general platform to support phytochemistry and quality control studies in Chinese materia medica and related products.
 
2. Quality Research Laboratory/Separation Laboratory
Equipped with various advance equipment such as liquid chromatograph/mass spectrometer (LC/MS), gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer (GC/MS), Inductively Coupled Plasma/Mass Spectrometer (ICP/MS), liquid chromatograph with various detectors, the Laboratory supports research work in Chinese medicine.
 
3. Authentication and Safety Testing ISO/IEC 17025 Laboratories
In addition to R&D work on chemical standardization, chemical fingerprinting and other analytical testing services, these Laboratories provide ISO/IEC 17025 safety testing for QA compliance required by the regulatory agents.
