Department of Religion and Philosophy
Head: Prof Kwan Kai Man

The Department of Religion and Philosophy offers the BA (Hons) in Religious Studies programme. This programme provides an opportunity to study diverse religious traditions of the world, especially the monotheistic faiths of Christianity and Islam, and the Chinese religious traditions of Daoism, Confucianism and Buddhism. Students will be engaged in the descriptive, philosophical and critical studies of religion. Students are also required to choose one of two Concentrations: (1) Christian Studies with emphasis on the study of Christian faith, especially its theological, ethical and socio-cultural dimensions; and (2) Philosophical Studies dealing with philosophical issues, problems or ideas that are highly relevant or closely related to understanding various religions or religious traditions. The aim is to prepare well-informed and independent thinkers who are able to do objective research, to collect and organize ideas, to analyse and make judgements required by any profession or position in a pluralistic and multicultural society.
