Master of Arts in Chinese Literature, Language and Culture

The MA in Chinese Literature, Language and Culture is a graduate programme for part-time or full-time students.

The programme aims to cultivate in students a deeper knowledge of Chinese Studies and to broaden their vision with new direction and perspectives so as to prepare them for the need and challenge of the modern Hong Kong with enhanced Chinese language skills and cultural literacy required by professions such as education, media and cultural management.

Students are required to take 27 units of course work including the Project Report of 3 units. All requirements are normally completed in two years (part-time) or one year (full-time).

Part-time students are expected (but not strictly limited) to take courses in evenings (6:30 – 9:20 p.m.) while full-time students mainly during the day time (8:30 a.m. – 6:20 p.m.). Students must achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.50 for graduation. Those who achieve a GPA of 3.40 to 3.66 will graduate with “Merit” while those with a GPA of 3.67 or above will graduate with “Distinction”.

  There are three areas: (1) Literature, (2) Langauge and (3) Culture. Students have to take at least one course in each area, and choose one area as the selected field in which they write the Project Report and take two more courses (the Project Report included). It must be noted that only a certain number of courses would be offered in a year.
