Language Enhancement Programme | |||
English Bridging Course | |||
First-year incoming undergraduates with a score of Grade E or below in AS Use of English or Level 3 or below in HKDSE English Language are required to attend this one-week course. The aim of the course is to help students adjust to an English-medium learning environment and to improve their speaking and listening proficiency. | |||
Writing Enhancement Services | |||
The Writing Enhancement Services help undergraduates and postgraduate students improve their writing skills in English or Chinese on an individual or group basis. | |||
Speaking Enhancement Services | |||
The Speaking Enhancement Services help undergraduates and postgraduate students improve their Putonghua, Cantonese or English speaking skills on an individual or group basis. | |||
Supplementary Language Courses | |||
The LC’s Supplementary Language Courses help students improve their English, Chinese and Putonghua, and acquire other languages such as Italian, Spanish, Japanese, French and German. The courses are non-credit bearing and enrolment is on a voluntary basis. Certificates of merit are given to students who pass their final tests in Putonghua courses. | |||
Independent Language Learning | |||
The Language Centre offers a wide range of facilities for independent language learning, to help students improve their English, Putonghua and other languages through individual study. Our English Learning Oasis has a broad selection of materials to improve general English proficiency, academic English, specific language skills, preparation for IELTS, etc. In addition, we offer support to students to develop independent language-learning skills. Materials for Putonghua learning, which include “Interactive Putonghua”, a multimedia learning system and other self-learning software, are also provided in our Putonghua Language Laboratory. Students can make use of these facilities to make progress at their own pace. | |||
