Department of Journalism
Head: Dr Alice Y L Lee

The Department of Journalism prepares students for entry to one of the most dramatic and challenging careers in Hong Kong—as reporters for the news media.

The 4-year Journalism Programme comprises three Concentrations—Chinese Journalism (including Broadcast stream), International Journalism and Financial Journalism. While students are expected to reach a high standard in the concentration of their choice, all Journalism students have the opportunity to work in both languages, writing or performing for both print and broadcast media. Students of all three concentrations are also introduced to the Internet as a tool for research and a medium for practising journalism.

While incorporating the requirements of an all-round liberal education, the programmes are designed to equip students to pursue careers in the news business. Students are required to undertake a professional internship during the long vacation between the second and third years.

The Department of Journalism has its own computer laboratory, image setter, printing press, plate-making and film processing machinery, and a television studio. There is also equipment for editing, dubbing and showing films and video tapes.

The Department of Journalism has more than ten full-time faculty members specializing in a wide range of topics relating to print/electronic journalism.
