The Department of Physics has 20 full-time faculty members working in our undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes. The 3-year Physics programme comprises two concentrations: Applied Physics and Physics with Computer Science. Strong foundation training in classical and modern physics is complemented with instructions in computing, laboratory physics and specialized applications to ensure that students can handle original problems, as they are required to do so in their final year project. Energy becomes an issue of growing importance locally and globally, the Department has started a 4-year teaching programme in Green Energy Science. The BSc (Hons) in GES aims at preparing students for a multidisciplinary career in the energy sector, involving trainings in physics, technology and social sciences. We envisage there will be a growing manpower demand in Green Energy. The Department has established many teaching and research laboratories. The major areas of research are biological physics, device physics, instrumentation, laser physics, materials science, organic electronics, nonlinear physics, soft-matter physics, and statistical physics. Facilities include surface and material characterization/processing systems; a full range of electronic, optical/laser, and cryos/thermal equipment; and numerous networked PCs, workstations and graphic systems. | ||||||
